About Lyric

Lyric Theatre was founded in 1963 by twelve prominent Oklahomans who wanted to bring the art form of musical theatre to Oklahoma. They established the first Board of Directors and produced three shows that first summer. Ticket prices were $1.50 for orchestra seats and $1.00 for all others. The main geographical area the founders originally targeted was the Oklahoma City area but they planned eventually to bring in audiences from many cities across the state. That vision has been accomplished. As of today, Lyric Theatre and its newly-named Thelma Gaylord Academy, has season subscribers from 112 towns in Oklahoma and serves close to 53,000 patrons annually. Lyric’s arts outreach program recently traveled to 76 Oklahoma schools, serving more than 30,000 school children statewide.
