Say It With Music

Lyric Theatre's Arts Outreach program embraces the theory that art, when used as an integrated component of classroom study, can provide a creative and highly effective teaching tool for standard core curriculum.

Utilizing musical theatre to ignite and enhance understanding, Lyric Theatre's outreach program offers integrated, presentational packages that draw from a wide selection of American musical favorites and are performed in the classroom.

Built around specific areas of study (such as history, literature, and social studies), program presenations are customized to meet each classroom teacher's individual needs. This highlly collaborative and integrated approach for the classroom makes Lyric Theatre's arts outreach program profoundly effective.

Program presentations generally run 45 minutes and include 3-5 musical selections that are linked together with instructional narrative by Lyric's Director of Education who also performs the selections. Longer presentations are also available.

"Music has the power to evoke memory. As such, musical theatre can be a unique to understanding by helping students emotionally connect to what they are studying. Students can more readily remember and better understand things connected to musical melodies that bring people, places and events to life." -Chris Harrod, Director of Education

There is no cost to the schools for this educational program. For more information about this exciting way to bring musical theatre into your classroom, please call Chris Harrod at 524-9310.
