Artistic Director

Nick Demos is leaving Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma after 9 successful seasons in order to direct and produce full time in the commercial theatre.  His company, Demos Bizar Entertainment, is already involved with the National Tour of The Drowsy Chaperone, Make Me a Song (Off-Broadway), and Vanities, the musical for Broadway’s ’09 season.

During his time, Lyric Theatre has seen unprecedented growth. Nick, along with Executive Director Paula Stover, transitioned the company from a summer theatre residing at the Oklahoma City University campus into a year-round theatre company with a children’s academy, administrative and production offices, rehearsal spaces and two new performance venues.  He has raised the standard of Lyric's production quality and has brought national recognition to the company.

Nick will remain with Lyric through the end of 2008 as well as through part of (if not all) of 2009. Once a new candidate is officially chosen, there will be a period of transition where Nick will oversee and mentor the new Artistic Director in order to make this transition as smooth as possible.

Therefore, Lyric Theatre is now seeking a year-round Artistic Director for the 45 year-old professional theatre.  The Artistic Director works in collaboration with the Executive Director to produce four summer musicals in the 2,500 seat Civic Center Music hall and several musicals, plays and student academy shows in the new, Lyric owned 278 seat Plaza Theatre.  Duties include, but are not limited to:  preparation of production budget, direction of 3 or more shows, plan and supervise the education programs of Lyric’s 200+ student Academy, work with the Executive Director in long range planning of all artistic programs.  The Artistic Director is accountable to the Board of Directors and the Executive Director.  Lyric Theatre operates in the black and has no outstanding debt.  The candidate must have a strong directing resume, excellent writing and budgeting skills, and a minimum of five years producing experience.  Please send resumes and references by Feb. 29th to Lyric Theatre, Attention Executive Director, 1727 N.W. 16th Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73106.  Lyric Theatre is an equal opportunity employer.
